Choosing the Right ISP Sales Qualification for You — Professional Academy

Not sure which ISP sales qualification is right for you? Discover the four levels — from foundational sales skills to Chartered Sales Professional — and find the right starting point for your career.

Developing professional sales skills through a recognised qualification is one of the most effective ways to build a sustainable career in sales. Whether starting out in a first sales role or looking to progress into more senior or strategic positions, the Institute of Sales Professionals (ISP) offers a clearly structured pathway of qualifications from foundation level through to chartered status.

Professional Academy is an accredited ISP qualification provider, offering programmes at Levels 3, 4, 5, and 6. Each level is designed for a different stage of a sales career, with content that reflects the responsibilities and challenges relevant to that point in a professional journey.

The ISP Qualification Pathway

The ISP framework provides a progression route that grows with a sales career. All levels are available as a Certificate or Diploma, giving learners flexibility in the depth and breadth of study. There are no formal entry requirements at any level — the key consideration is whether the content aligns with a learner's current role and experience.

The infographic below provides an overview of all four levels, including who each qualification is suited to and what it covers:

ISP Level 3 — Sales Professionalism

The ISP Level 3 qualification is aimed at individuals working in, or aspiring to work in, sales roles where selling to clients, customers, and businesses is a core responsibility. It is well suited to those early in their sales career — including school or college leavers, those new to a sales role, and anyone looking to formalise the skills they have begun to develop in their first sales position.

The qualification covers the essentials of selling and sales representation, including the laws and ethics of selling, understanding customers and sales targets, and the fundamentals of business development. The Certificate requires completion of four mandatory units; the Diploma extends this with four additional optional units.

ISP Level 4 — Executive Sales Professionalism

Level 4 is designed for salespeople working with larger or more complex opportunities, and for those responsible for developing a sales territory or managing key accounts. It builds on the foundations of Level 3 with a focus on more advanced customer relationship management, territory development, and the skills required to operate effectively in more demanding sales environments.

The Certificate pathway requires four modules; the Diploma requires a minimum of eight modules, achieving a credit score of 37 or above.

ISP Level 5 — Advanced Sales Professionalism

The Level 5 qualification is suited to sales managers and senior sales professionals working with global or corporate accounts. It develops the competencies needed to manage a sales team or an advanced sales function, covering strategic pipeline management, sales performance leadership, and the skills required to operate at a senior level within a commercial organisation.

The Certificate requires four mandatory units; the Diploma adds five optional units for a broader and deeper qualification.

ISP Level 6 — Chartered Sales Professionalism

Level 6 is the most advanced qualification in the ISP framework and is designed for sales directors and senior sales leaders. It is suited to those directing teams of sales managers or managing major sales developments and vital business accounts. Completing this level leads to Chartered Sales Professional status — a recognised mark of senior expertise within the profession.

For those who have progressed through the lower levels, Level 6 represents the culmination of a structured professional development journey. For experienced senior practitioners entering the framework at this level, it provides formal recognition of the expertise they have developed in practice.
