Ever wondered what it is actually like to work as a Digital Marketing Apprentice? Reece Bower gives us an honest, day-to-day look at life on the job — from managing social channels and email campaigns to solving problems across the business and building the kind of practical skills that no classroom can fully replicate.
Starting the Day
As a Digital Marketing Apprentice, mornings start with the essentials: checking emails, Teams messages, the company digital inbox, and social channels. This gives a quick overview of anything urgent before looking at the tasks for the day, setting priorities, and getting started.
Managing Daily Digital Activity
Once up and running, the day involves monitoring our Amazon presence, checking stock levels, and responding to any customer queries that come through. I also support the wider marketing and product teams with any digital tasks they need help with — whether that is setting up UTM tracking, preparing campaigns, or troubleshooting issues.
Other regular responsibilities include managing our e-learning platform, overseeing email campaigns, handling customer issues on our websites, managing our survey platform and Bitly links, creating new surveys when needed, and supporting our social channels by designing and scheduling posts and campaigns.
No two days are exactly the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role. The variety keeps things interesting and means I am constantly learning something new.
Problem Solving, Creativity and Collaboration
A significant part of the role involves problem-solving and resolving internal or external issues quickly to keep everything running smoothly. Working closely with different teams across the business keeps things varied and makes the work feel genuinely meaningful.
I especially enjoy the creative and e-commerce aspects of my role, as well as working on system improvements when the opportunity arises. These tasks give me a real sense of ownership and help me build practical skills that directly support my qualification.
Why I Chose an Apprenticeship
I chose the apprenticeship route because I have always been passionate about digital marketing, and I wanted to start gaining real experience as soon as possible whilst working towards a qualification. Professional Academy has allowed me to learn the theory behind marketing whilst putting it directly into practice every single day.
That combination — structured learning alongside real work — is something you simply cannot replicate by studying full-time. By the time I complete the programme, I will not just have a qualification; I will have genuine, employer-verified experience to back it up.
Looking Ahead
Working in digital marketing means there is always something new to learn, and this apprenticeship has given me the perfect foundation to grow. It has helped me build confidence, develop a wide range of skills, and understand how digital supports the wider business.
For anyone considering a digital marketing apprenticeship, it is an incredibly rewarding way to start your career. It combines real responsibility with structured learning that helps you progress quickly — and the skills you build along the way are ones that stay with you.
