Unlocking the Secrets of Google Panda & Implied Links

As anyone who has ever had a website knows, Google can be a mysterious and difficult task master - especially when it comes to promoting your site. But, I am pleased to say, some of Google's best kept secrets have been revealed by a site called Shift Communications.

They have gone through the painstaking task of reading an official patent submitted by Google earlier this year. In this patent, Google reveals a little of how their most recent (and tricky) update - Panda - works; and one juicy bit of information in particular is that Google counts implied links.

What are implied links I hear you say?  An implied link occurs whenever your brand, products or services are mentioned online, even if no hyperlink is created. This is great news for us as it means that any time your site is talked about Google recognises it!

Importantly, it also means that generating PR for your brand is still one of the most useful things you can do to boost your site's ranking on Google search results pages!

So keep up the hard work! Finally, a few of Google's secrets have been uncovered and we can all be comfortable in the knowledge that some of our marketing efforts will actually work.
